Verizon contracts for smartphones, other devices expand to 3 years – Yahoo Tech

Smartphones

Verizon’s contracts on smartphones, smartwatches, tablets and mobile hotspot will be for three years only.

Want to get a smartphone from Verizon? Prepare to lock in for a longer-term contract.

When shopping for a device on Verizon’s website including smartphones, consumers are given only two options: pay for the device fully or pay over 36 months.

Previously, Verizon offered payment options stretching for either 24 or 30 months. Users still have the option to pay off the remaining balance of their device at any time.

According to Verizon’s website, the 36-month plans apply to devices including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and mobile hotspot devices.

Verizon says if you had a 24-month or 30-month agreement before Feb. 3, your contract terms will stay the same.

Details of the change were first reported by the tech site Droid Life.
